Cycling without luggage! A great exprerience along the River Main Cycle Route!

The length of the Main-Cycle-Path from Bayreuth to Mainz is approximate 520 kilometres.

The Main-Cycle-Route was the first route to received five stars, this means pleasure at its highest level for cyclists.

It is great to follow the river main with the wheel on his route through the beautiful Franconian and Hessian Landscapes along the way with their regional specificities.

You will get so many unforgettable impressions: the romantic Franconian Switzerland, “Beer Franconia”, the Franconian wine area, the lovely Tauber Valley, the fairytale forest areas in the Main Spessart district and the varied Hessian lower main: the main bike trail promises cycling fun.

Usually the route of the Main-Cycle-Route runs on separate bike paths at the waterfront or along quiet country roads and only rarely field tracks and forest paths. Really busy routes are the exception and are usually used as short links.

From Bayreuth to Bamberg along Main-Cycle-Path
From the festival city of Bayreuth you start your tour through the area of “Beer Franconia” . The route leads you via Kulmbach and Lichtenfels to Bamberg. Just past Lichtenfels the distinctive towers of the monastery of Banz and Vierzehnheiligen arise on the hills. The only serious climbs are found here.

From Bamberg to Würzburg
A few kilometres after the magnificnent historic city of Bamberg you leave the region of “Beer Franconia” and head for “Wine Franconia”. And soon the hills around you are covered in vines. Trough a lot of romantic wine villages you reach the residence city Würzburg. Turn out to be romantic, historical and pleasant to the taste.

From Würzburg to Aschaffenburg
Behind Würzburg you reach the dark green forests of the Spessart. Along the route you have historic and romantic cities like Karlstadt, Lohr, Wertheim where the Main picks up the water of the Tauber, famous Miltenberg and redwine city Klingenberg.

From Aschaffenburg to Mainz
You leave Aschaffenburg, the “Bavarian Nice” with the impressive renaissance castle “Johannisburg” and reach in Seligenstadt the Hession lower main. The Main is accompanied by settlements, towns and industry for almost the rest of the

Main-Cycle-Path until Mainz. In exchange you find very versatile offer in the cities like Seligenstadt, Frankfurt and Mainz, on the end of the Main-Cylce-Path where the Main flow into the river Rhine.
